Garden and Rooftop Terraces
The Museo Reina Sofía’s Garden and Terraces are the ideal spaces to encounter something different from the customary experience of the exhibition rooms. Both outdoor areas offer a unique environment for rest and to enhance the enjoyment of your visit. The Garden, with its sculptures and greenery, allows for rest and relaxation when you want to take a breather; the Rooftop Terraces, with their panoramic views, are spaces to connect with the Museo’s cultural and architectural environment from a fresh perspective.
The Garden
Sabatini Building
The Garden, a green space at the heart of the Sabatini Building, is a peaceful haven in the centre of Madrid, providing a place of rest during your visit and constituting an extension of the exhibition space, with sculptures by modern and contemporary artists such as Joan Miró and Alexander Calder synthesising with the vegetation.
The Garden’s design blends historical elements with a modern focus, creating an environment that ignites the reflection and contemplation of art in a natural environment. Its arrangement affords visitors the chance to soak up the calm of an outdoor space as they immerse themselves in a nature-artwork dialogue. It Is also the perfect place for visitors to take a break, read for a while and plan the next stage of their visit around the Museo.

Located in one of its parterres is Jardín de las mixturas (The Garden of Mixtures), a site-specific intervention set in motion by the artist Alejandra Riera and still active today through collective work. In this part of the Garden, nature extends beyond the limits of the original classical design and life reconquers the space, sparking the “co-existence of human and non-human presence that take place there”.

Rooftop Terraces
Nouvel Building

Located at the top of the building designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, these Rooftop Terraces offer a striking panoramic view of Madrid’s urban landscape, combining art, architecture and the vibrant life of the city.
This open-air space offers a fresh perspective of Madrid and is the ideal place to rest and relax during your visit.
Furthermore, it is an expansion of the Museo’s exhibition space and features an ensemble of works by some of the salient names of 1960s and 1970s geometric sculpture, for instance Jesús Rafael Soto, Edgard Negret and Martín Chirino.
It also habitually houses temporary installations and cultural activities to become a meeting point in which art fuses with the urban environment. The Rooftop Terraces thus become the ideal place to take a breather while you connect with the creative essence of the Museo.
