Luis López Carrasco on Neighbourhood Youth, by Video-Nou/Servei de Vídeo Comunitari
La Favorita
This interview sees film-maker and writer Luis López Carrasco (Murcia, 1981) discuss the documentary film Los jóvenes de barrio (Neighbourhood Youth, 1982), by the Video-Nou/Servei de Vídeo Comunitari collective (Barcelona, 1977–1983).
When Carrasco saw Los jóvenes de barrio for the first time he was working on the documentation for his feature-length film El futuro (The Future), also situated in 1982, and felt a strong personal connection on discovering images in the film that were part of his childhood memories. Framed in a context of global crisis, in which the narrative of the Spanish Transition to democracy had faded, López Carrasco elaborates on his search for the life-based practices and experiences that would allow him to understand what was occurring.
This interview is part of La Favorita, a project which invites public figures to choose their favourite work from the Museo Reina Sofía Collections and share their personal history around it.
