Chenta Tsai on «Homenaje póstumo a mi madre», by Hanne Darboven

This interview sees Chenta Tsai (Taipei, 1990), also Putochinomaricón, discuss the work Posthum an meiner Mutter (1999), by German artist Hanne Darboven (Munich, 1941 – Hamburg, 2009). 

In 2014 Chenta Tsai discovered Darboven in an exhibition in the Museo Reina Sofía and encountered different points of connection to this piece. On one side, the possibility of finding emotion and emotiveness in a seemingly cold and rational structure, similar to certain rituals from Chinese and Taiwanese culture; and on the other, Darboven’s choice of building her art from coding and opacity, which seemed as if it could work as a model of self-protection for non-hegemonic artists.
