The Museo Reina Sofía Library’s mission is to conserve and disseminate collective memory, making an ensemble of archives and documentary holdings of Spanish and international art, with a strong emphasis on Latin America, available to the public and researchers alike.
These archives and documentary holdings reflect, in structure and content, the process with which artists, art critics and gallerists assemble and classify different materials as a result of their respective professional activities. The ensemble, which has huge historical value and stands out for its volume and diversity, includes correspondence, notes, personal writings, draft publications, unpublished texts, projects, graphic and audiovisual material, press cuttings and invites. Generally, these are one-off documents or documents with very few copies in existence, which means the Library manages them with special care and attention, ensuring at once their conservation and their dissemination and access to interested researchers and members of the public.
