The Performance and Intermedia Art Collection at Museo Reina Sofía
Interview
The Museo Reina Sofía’s Department of Performing Arts and Intermedia was created in 2013, within the Museo’s Collections Department, with the aim of exploring how performing arts practices become embedded in a collection and its institutional framework. This video sees Rosario Peiró, head of Collections, and Lola Hinojosa, in charge of this specific conservation service, explain how this collection has been developed and the future alignment of its research. Throughout these interviews, this aspect is addressed from the perspectives of theory, practice and ethics, with the areas of analysis including the predicament of the impossibility of preserving live arts, the idea of archive as an artefact to historically document and interpret performance in all its forms (theatre, music, dance, performance, etc.) and the conditions the Museo offers as an instrument to reactivate the potential of these practices and their relationship with the public.
