Patricia Falguières
Art History in Dark Times
This video is a recording of the lecture given by Patricia Falguières, inside the María Luisa Caturla Chair, on 12 May 2026. In the lecture, she puts forward a route through the discipline and historiography of art, interweaving them with her own time, biography and experience to draw attention to an art history with the capacity tocontinually question its own disciplinary limits and adapt to contemporary challenges.
Falguières thus sets forth a “chaotic and adventurous” itinerary, which stretches from the Renaissance to Fukushima, with the aim of exploring core questions such as: What can the practice of art history mean today, in a world ablaze with ominous glimmers and even more ominous threats, if not as mere entertainment or social ornament?
