A Short Century is the title of the lecture, the subject of this video, given by artist, curator and cultural manager Ibrahim Mahama, in which he surveys his professional career, underscoring the connections between academic research, artistic creation and contemporary cultural strategies as entwined practices. His pre-eminent art work and his community cultural initiatives situated in the local context of Tamale (Ghana), his home city, question the political position taken up by people in production systems around the world and re-consider the transformative role of art from the Global South. The lecture is framed inside the Seminar Curatorial Practices, a space of discussion and analysis concerning the forms of contemporary curating, within the Museo Reina Sofía’s Study Programme Connective Tissue.
