This section presents certain milestones in the construction of an institutional scene for Spanish art over the last fifty years, but it also constitutes a tentative exercise in self-representation by the Museo Reina Sofía. The intention is to recognize some key figures in the museum’s origins, while opening up debate and calmly evaluating the institution’s own contributions to its immediate context.
