Although a significant part of Genín Andrada's work has been linked to photojournalism, his creative ability has led him to explore artistic projects that possess a powerful social side.
These photographs, part of the show Sida, entre el dolor y la esperanza (AIDS: Between Pain and Hope), held in 1996 at the Museo Centro de Arte Reina Sofía to mark World AIDS Day, should be viewed in this context. The project was developed between 1994 and 1996, during which time Andrada visited and lived with HIV patients in Spain, France and Italy, the European countries where the epidemic had hit the hardest. The photographs that resulted from these encounters highlight the coexistence of the disease's threat with the chance of building spaces for life and hope.
