Bollos (Buns)

The video Bollos (Buns) captures the two artists innocently eating two cream buns, and in doing so alludes to the insult “bollera” (dyke) commonly and disparagingly used to refer to lesbians. In referring, literally, to the word “bollo”, Cabello/Carceller free the work from any loaded moral tradition, turning it into a simple descriptive adjective. This technique of re-appropriating the insult is a strategy employed by LGTBI communities.
