Machinery of Dignity. The Catwalk as a Collective Tool is an encounter that sees the Territorio Doméstico feminist collective, via the use of the body and humour, convey the demands, illnesses and forms of resistance of female domestic and care workers. Therefore, the use of wardrobes and daily objects such as mops, aprons and cleaning tools, and a resignification of the fashion narrative, highlight the structural inequality at the core of the work of these women.

To make these struggles more visible, Territorio Doméstico unfurls a series of alliances, strategies and actions, where the performative and the political cross over to create new languages of resistance. On this occasion, the activity is an invitation to enjoy and reflect on how the catwalk has also been a tool of alliance, solidarity and protest for collectives from other countries who are part of the international coordinator of female domestic and care workers, and who have worked together for the past five years. Focusing on the publication Pasarela fashion de Territorio Doméstico. Como la vida misma (Territorio Doméstico’s Catwalk Fashion. Like Life Itself), a catalogue which traces the awareness-raising work carried out through the catwalk, video screenings, discussions, music and performance, Territorio Doméstico look to share their accounts of resistance, mechanisms of struggle and progress made, as well as their activist background and the importance of placing citizens’ rights at the heart of life.

Territorio Doméstico

is a feminist women’s collective made up of female domestic and care workers who live in the Community of Madrid. They form a cross-border space that fights to make urgent issues more visible: the defence of their labour rights and the recognition of illnesses associated with the huge physical and mental exertions of their jobs, as well as settling institutions’ care debts.
