Jean-Luc Mylayne

Into the hands of time

Different aspects of Jean-Luc Mylayne’s work are analysed in this catalogue for the retrospective exhibition presented at the Palacio de Velázquez. Focusing on the subject of birds, a central theme in the photographer’s, the ‘constructed’ authenticity of Mylayne’s work is explored. In addition, how he breaks away from documentary photography and his relationship with other artists such as Bernd and Hilla Becher is examined. Some thought is also given to Mylayne’s reformulation of the tradition of accompanying reflexions about birds with metaphors and associations, through the concept of ‘time’ following Bergsonian and Proustian perspectives.
