Chuck Close. Paintings 1968/2006

Chuck Close belongs to the generation that, putting emphasis in the artistic processes, came of age towards the end of the sixties. For four decades he has worked on monumental portraits, ‘heads’, of his family and friends, observing their feelings and exploring different procedures to recreate the pictorial illusion. The exhibition examines the range of variations experimented in his portraits between 1968 and 2006 focusing on his painting. The catalogue includes essays by Klaus Kertess, writer and independent curator, Robert Storr, director of the 2007 Venice Biennale, in addition to an interview to Close by the art historian Richard Shiff, director of the Center for the Study of Modernism at the University of Texas.
