Ben Shahn

On Nonconformity

The exhibition catalogue Ben Shahn. On Nonconformity covers a broad selection of the artist’s prolific work, in the period stretching from the 1930s to the 1960s, and its different languages and mediums: from drawing to photography and Muralism, via easel paintings and prints. The essays journey through Shahn’s work, the techniques he employed and his use of photography, as well as casting light on different facets such as the World War Two posters he designed, his paintings in relation to the workforce and the world of work and post-war aesthetic debates.
