The retrospective devoted to Ulises Carrión (1941, San Andrés Tuxtla, Veracruz, Mexico – 1989, Amsterdam, Netherlands) explores the various aspects of a many-sided artistic and intellectual oeuvre, from the artist's beginnings as a successful and respected young writer in Mexico to his periods in France, Germany and England (1964-1972), when he sharpened his determination to innovate language, and finally to Amsterdam, where he settled definitively and became involved in a wide range of artistic and literary activities.
Querido lector. No lea (Dear reader. Don't read) reveals an artist who belonged fully to his time yet always managed to walk a step ahead of it. The show will gather some 350 books, magazines, videos, films, soundscapes, examples of mail art, multimedia creations, performances, etc. Also on display will be a number of projects where Carrión acted as curator, editor, distributor, TV and radio activist, lecturer and writer.
