Halfway between figuration and abstraction, this work stands out through the presence of two figures with elemental forms in their geometry and naïve monumentality, the expansive strength of which appears to covet an exterior beyond the limits of the painting. “For me, colour is something opaque, like a wall. Above all, I try to give the impression of density in painting,” explains Menchu Lamas. The fish image, repeatedly running through his work, along with moons and spiders, refers to medieval bestiary, imagery with deep roots in his native Galicia.
