Martes (Tuesday)

In 1991, the year in which the painting Tuesday was made, Juan Uslé’s artistic practice underwent a change following a two-year spell in New York.  For the artist, the lure of this city came through the work of artists with a decisive influence on the history of painting after the Second World War. This first-hand experience led Uslé to begin using intense colours, to alternate between expression and geometry, austerity and the Baroque — characteristics which are all present in this work.
