The programme Together and Rising Up assembles a series of activities, exhibitions, rooms from the Collection, study groups, guided tours and digital projects inside the Museo, to be presented over the course of 2021, and thus reflecting the plural nature of transfeminist struggles and the complexity of new challenges for feminism. 

Slumil K’ajxemk’op — which means “rebel land” in Tzotzil, a Mayan dialect — is how the Zapatista delegation renamed Europe during its visit to the continent in 2021. A gift for being aware of and recognising ourselves as part of another Europe “abducted” from itself, and which invites us to reinvent our ties to the past in an emancipatory mode of expression, to the point of returning our otherness to us: the non-suppressed condition.

This TIZ addresses the problem areas that approach ecology from relationality. Interactions, relations of intimacy and mutual support, forms of collective intelligence, shared knowledge, involvement in protesting against climate change and community learning are some of the concepts that define the activities, activations, investigations and accompaniments from April through to July in the Museo.

This encounter, organised under the framework of the exhibition on the artist held in the Museo, reflects on the connections between artistic practices, extreme violence and the precariousness of life.

This eighth edition of Situated Voices, promoted by the Museo Situado network, an initiative in which different migrant collectives and neighbourhood associations from Madrid’s Lavapiés neighbourhood collaborate with the Museo Reina Sofía, reflects on the borders which obstruct crossings and refuge for people in the contemporary world.

Adolescents. Films and Videos for/about Girls and Boys is a programme of underground films that deal with the problems faced by adolescents and the challenges entailed in reaching the earliest years of adult life. Despite the difficulties involved in this vital phase for most people who experience it, as series curator Susana Blas notes, “we have gone from thinking of youth as an illness that is quickly cured to completely sublimating it. It seems that nobody wants to let go of this young way of living, which for many people has become a way of feeling, from being radical to just adopting their aesthetics and fashions. Today, you can find 40-year-old adolescents.” Drawing on this observation, the series is designed to break with the most perverse aspects involved in the sublimation of adolescence and unearth some of the clichés that have emerged around this difficult and venerated time of life. At the same time, it is introducing audiences to the work of a series of essential artists in the contemporary audiovisual world.

Braaaasiiiil is a series of films, videos, concerts and performance pieces all about the vast world of contemporary Brazilian society, put together during the course of 2007 by the audiovisual department with the assistance of Maria Helena Leitão and Raquel Hallak.

For a fourth consecutive year, the concert series Archipelago invites the audience to delve into the complex nature of the contemporary world through listening and explores the relationship between experimental music and popular culture by way of sounds from different narratives and geographies.
