Encounter with Simone Forti and Performance

The Museo Reina Sofía and La Casa Encendida welcome the choreographer and dancer Simone Forti with two activities: a workshop and encounter with the artist. The workshop Body Mind World, held in La Casa Encendida, works with processes that include the flow between body intelligence and verbal mind, improvisation with movement and the combination of movement with words. During the encounter inside the Museo, Tania Arias, the coordinator of Forti’s performances that featured in the exhibition ±1961 Founding the Expanded Arts, conducts an interview documenting the choreographer’s professional career from the 1960s to the present day. Once the encounter is over, participants from the workshop and Simone Forti herself present the results from some of the works in the Auditorium Hall.
Simone Forti. An artist and choreographer who studied with Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham, she was a member of the Judson Dance Theater, in New York. She is currently adjunct assistant professor in the World Arts and Cultures Department at the University of California, Los Angeles. Forti works with movement and words in pieces like News Animations, and publications like Handbook in Motion (1974) and Oh, Tongue (2003). Her works are included in the permanent collections of numerous museums, and she has received a wide range of awards, including the Yoko Ono Lennon “Courage in the Arts” Award in 2011.
Tania Arias. With an Art degree from Columbia University, New York, and a graduate from the Real Conservatorio de Danza, Madrid, she has collaborated with diverse artists such as La Ribot (2004-07), Carlos Marquerie (2008-2010), Mónica Valenciano and El Bailadero (2004-06). She is currently working with Mathilde Monnier, Gilles Jobin and Mark Tompkins in excellence for professional dancers at the Centre Chorégraphique National, Montpellier, and holds workshops on movement and dance for different collectives.
