Kanimambo (thank you in Shangaan language) is the reason that three directors decide to explore a country that is largely unknown to them - but that turns out to be of great purity and authenticity - in search of characters that allow them to create good stories. This process is both a personal and a collective adventure.
The three stories that Kanimambo tells speak in first person about the different experiences that each director had in Mozambique. The stories are woven together very finely, creating a subtle tapestry of emotions in the heart of southern Africa. In a country still marked by the ravages and the stigma of civil war, the war for independence, as well as poverty and illness, Kanimambo shows us men and women who are heroes of everyday life. Their sole aim: to struggle for a better life. Kanimambo is a film that helps us reflect on and contrast the varying perceptions of life in Africa and the West.
