Essay for Utopia (Andrés Duque, 2012)

The filmmaker does an excavation of the footage he accumulated during certain life experiences, giving rise to works in which the personal archive is a necessary part of an organic and sensorial cinematography. In Final essay for Utopia, he delves into the images filmed and found during a trip to Mozambique, interrupted by his sudden return to Venezuela to see his father who has fallen ill. A fascinating collage that uses everything from images recorded with a cell phone to films of the revolution in Mozambique, thereby travelling, in both directions, the paths that link the personal to the political, and exploring the strange filiations with the mysteries of the real.
