Acción!MAD11. VIII International Action Art Encounter
Acción!MAD, International Action Art Encounters, has been an annual even in Madrid since 2003, offering audiences in this city a broad and profound vision of an independent genre.
The two sessions of Acción!MAD11 that are hosted by Museo Reina Sofía are dedicated entirely to "Performance Saga," a research project about the women who pioneered Action Art in Europe and the United States in the 1960s and 70s. As in other years, in recognition of their extraordinary contribution to Action Art, more than fifty percent of our programming is devoted to women.
Performance Saga transmits and contemporizes the history of Action Art on a variety of levels and promotes intergenerational dialogue. To date, the project consists of the conception and creation of performance art pieces, the publication of eight video interviews with women who pioneered Action Art and three Performance Saga festivals that took place in Bern, Lausanne and Basel between 2008 and 2009.
