Successful candidates in the first international call for applications to the research residencies at Museo Reina Sofía. This program is a joint initiative of the Conference of Rectors of Public Universities in Madrid (CRUMA), under the presidency of the Universidad de Alcalá, Banco Santander, through its Santander Universities Global Division and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
Through it, students, teachers and researchers have the opportunity to study at the Museum for a two-month period. During this time they have access to a variety of resources that will enable them to advance in their research, and they give at least one lecture on their work and one seminar-workshop

Based on the aforementioned criteria, the Commission entrusted with studying and evaluating the projects has selected the following candidates:
Nina Möntmann. Art critic and curator, editor of Art and Its Institutions (Black Dog Publishing, 2006) and New Communities (Public Books, 2009), for her research proposal concerning artistic practices and new notions of community in global society.
David Quigley. Historian, translator and visiting professor at the Institute for Philosophy of the University of Vienna. He specialises in historiography and the history of art from the 1930s, as evidenced by Carl Einstein. A Defense of the Real (Schlebrügge, 2007), "Carl Einstein: Reproducing the Real", in Afterall, Spring 2010, and his participation in the seminar Carl Einstein y su legado en la historia del arte contemporáneo (Museo Reina Sofía, January 2009). His project involves the analysis of the relationship between modernity, totalitarianism and democracy, parting from the study of the exhibitions Cubism and Abstract Art (MoMA, 1936), the Universal Exposition of 1937 and Degenerate Art (Munich, 1937).
Julián Díaz Sánchez. Professor of Art History at the Universidad de Castilla La Mancha, he is the author of El triunfo del informalismo: la consideración de la pintura abstracta en la época de Franco (Metáforas del movimiento moderno, 2000). His research project concerns the reception of North American art through Museo Reina Sofía.
Bojana Piškur. Artist and pedagogue, founder of the group Radical Education of Ljubljana, for her project on cartographies of active subjectivities/collectivities in the field of radical and/or alternative education.
Isabel García Pérez de Arce. Curator, director of archives at the Cultural Documentation Centre Palacio de la Moneda between 2006 and 2010, in Santiago, Chile.
El Museo Reina Sofía
The fundamental objective of Museo Reina Sofía is to enable the public to learn about, have access to and receive training in relation to modern and contemporary art in its various manifestations, and to encourage the communication of the plastic arts to society. Its most important functions include: informational, training and teaching activities, expert consulting in relation to the Museum's contents and collaborative efforts with other institutions that support the world of culture and contribute to bringing culture closer to society as a whole. The Museum performs these functions through its Study Centre, the main pillars of which are: the post-graduate program on Contemporary Art and Visual Culture, offered in conjunction with the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and the programming of seminars, courses and lectures by its Department of Cultural Programs.

Assistance packages have been set up to help researchers, artists and teachers cover travel expenses and room and board. The project is supported by Banco Santander, which participates in this initiative through its Santander Universities Global Division. The activities of this Division form the backbone of the bank's social action and make it possible to maintain stable alliances with over 800 academic institutions in America, Spain, China, Morocco, Portugal, United Kingdom and Russia.
Conference of Rectors of Public Universities in Madrid (CRUMA)
This association is comprised of the six rectors of the public universities located in Madrid: Universidad de Alcalá, Universidad Complutense, Universidad Carlos III, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Universidad Politécnica and Universidad Autónoma. One of aims of the association is to co-ordinate academic activities among the member universities. Its purpose is to defend the general interests of society in relation to quality higher education, with respect for the autonomy of universities and academic freedom, within the Community of Madrid.
