The line is the primary formulation in the imaginary of Anne-Marie Schneider (Chauny, France, 1962), in which autobiographical activity also has a strong presence. The line refers to gestural writing and gives shape to the enigmatic world of personages whose bodies are often taken apart and fitted back together in fragments, prolonged in domestic space and projected on to the landscape.

Among her references are visual artists  —Eva Hesse or Louise Bourgeois —, and key figures in literature  —Franz Kafka or Virginia Woolf — given her interest in storytelling and communication. Formally, color and line coexist in their paintings, drawings and films, alternating to approach different perspectives from around the body, dance and movement, or folk tales.

Salvador Dalí. Objet surréaliste [Surrealist Object], 1936. Chocolate glove

This encounter focuses on Salvador Dalí’s work Objet surréaliste [Surrealist Object, 1936], comprising a chocolate glove and other objects, for which a display case with a controlled atmosphere – low in oxygen (anoxia) – has been designed.

The activity is prefaced by a tribute to doctor Shin Maekawa, an engineer at the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI) who devised the original design of the anoxia display cases for museums and worked with Spanish institutions linked to heritage conservation for over two decades, up until his death in July 2016.

Documentos 2. Zines of the Zone

Zines of the Zone

Zines of the Zone

The second activity in the programme Documentos, which revolves around themes related to the Museo Reina Sofía Documentation Centre, is Zines of the Zone: a “nomadic library” bringing together some 1,500 fanzines, photobooks and self-edited photo-zines which all share the use of photography.

Since January 2014, the collection Zines of the Zone, which surfaced in France, has travelled around Europe, holding brief shows, concerts and talks to put forward forms of alternative exhibitions. It aims to make DIY practices known among artists from different backgrounds and audiences with an interest, as well as facilitate access to publications with often limited editions that swiftly run out.

Date: from Thursday 10 to Saturday 12, 2016
Location: Edificio Nouvel, Auditorios, Vestíbulo
Time: check website
Organized by: Museo Reina Sofía
Curatorship: Zines of the Zone
