Archivos en Uso (Archives in Use) has been made possible through the collaboration provided by an extensive team of participants, both individuals and institutions, that have contributed to authorising the digitalisation of their documents over different stages of the project, in addition to the support of the Museo Reina Sofía, along with CONICET (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Tecnológicas, Argentina) and FfAI (Foundation for Art Initiatives, USA).
The digitalisation of archives facilitates the dissemination of valuable documentary heritage by means of low-resolution copies that guarantee their circulation and access to the public. Not only is the web platform designed as a repository for the materials developed by this research, it also revolves around a device to access them, set up to link the documents in a new and complex manner. It features a relational design that makes the archive accessible once more without the need for the users’ specialisation, placing the document in connection with historical accounts and research. The archives contain materials from different mediums (photography, written documents, video and audio, among others) and are organised through key words (dates, archives, events, proper names, core ideas), thus making up a database that simplifies the users’ search, as well as articulating an assembled and multi-directional narration.
Besides their online consultation, these archives in use are available free of charge and either temporarily or permanently on computers in libraries, research centres, museums, art centres and education institutions. They must be requested through the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. In terms of different online consultation uses of the assembled documents (given they could be publications or exhibitions), the consultation will be directed to each owner that corresponds to the rights of the document.
