Abigail Child (San Francisco, 1948) explores the possibilities inherent in mixing genres and narrative strategies to engage public space through memory and history.
The Future is Behind You (2004), Mirror World (2006) and Ligatures (2009) provocatively and eloquently investigate the viewer’s ideas about history and sexuality. Recently, Child has turned her vertical montage to installation, creating prismatic and interruptive multiple screen narratives in art centres around the world, including the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), Harvard University and the American Academy in Rome, the city where she filmed The Pursuit, a feature film with scenes from the life of Mary and Percy Shelley in the form of imaginary home movies.
