Restoration and conservation
The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía is dedicated to conserving and restoring contemporary art for its physical and material demands, as well as to undertaking research and maintenance that ensure proper conservation of the works in the Collection. The Museum also practices preventative conservation techniques on all works that make up its temporary exhibitions.
Conservation-restoration focuses on three main areas:
- Research: the Museum has a chemical analysis laboratory, a photography research lab, infrared reflectography and x-ray diagnostics capabilities.
- Preventative conservation: implementing research and educational projects in Europe and Latin America.
- Restoration treatments: specializing in painting, sculpture, cellulose supports (drawings, engravings, prints, photographs, etc.), installations and multimedia.
