Images of Spain. Academicism and classicism in the 1950s

The other line, more diffuse, is linked to different trends in figurative painting, in the fifties and sixties, long rooted in the twentieth century and always on the aesthetic and semantic threshold of the Avant-garde. These trends are shown by works as different as those of the photographic Realism of Fernando Gordillo, Virxilio Vieitez, Francisco Gómez Martínez, placed in relation to the early works of Carmen Laffón and Antonio López. This figurative Art recreates the characters and the tones of a dreamt, immutable Spain, through a realism that is no way dialectic or critical, given that it is identified as an invariable feature of the Spanish spirit.
