Juan Gris (1887-1927) was the protagonist of one of the most significant developments in Cubism during the 1920's. This period, one of the most fruitful in his artistic career, was influenced by a “return to order” introduced to avant-garde movements at the time. In his works from that period, one can perceive the monumentality in the treatment of figures, a purity of lines and a recuperation of warmer tones. Early on, still life became an important protagonist in his body of work, and allowed him to delve deeper into the three-dimensional treatment of the plane. To this motive, he added an element which would become essential during this last period: the window.
